Exploding phones...
This has been the most freakin’ busy week ever. I swear, I thought the phone as going to spontaneously combust today it was ringing so much, and it’s been like that all week. It like everyone decided to build something at the same time. Space it out, please….Please?? Needless to say, this is why there has been no post since Saturday, between that and The Male’s birthday Monday.
Sunday was the Southern California Handweavers' Guild "Weaving & Spinning Festival” Annual Autumn Show & Sale in Torrance. I met Wendy, Nancy and MJ for yummys at the local Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf before the show.
Wendy helped MJ with her drop spindling while she and Nancy knitted, Nancy on her Clapotis and Wendy on her Butterfly. I left my knitting in the car and couldn’t get up the effort to go back and get it. Lazy me. Nancy has more picks on her blog. It was so great to meet up with them! Oh, and that fleece Wendy got? It was darned lovely.
Show was alright, small, and quite a bit of weaving yarns and old stock. However there were a couple of vendors that were good. Village Spinning and Weaving were there, but with very little fiber. I did the most damage at the Capistrano Fiber Arts booth.
From right to left we have 2 bundles of Cowgirl Blues, an Alpaca, Merino, Silk blend, next is a Ltd Edition color which is a Merino, Silk, Angora blend and finally Black Raspberry, a blend of Merino and Bombax Silk. Yummmmmmy!!! Can’t wait to spin them up. I also bought some Crosspatch Creations batts in Stone Soup, which are the ends of runs made up into batts.
Finally, I scored along with MJ on some laceweight Alpaca yarn on little cones on the way out.
2000 yards for a whopping $4.50, it was ½ off the original $9.00. Wow, a lace shawl for under $5 with no ends to weave in. Nice!
Afterwards, it was of to the Drag Races for The Male’s birthday. Fun, although I think I can say I’ve been and don’t need to go again. I tried to take pictures of the races for you all but my camera is much to slow. All I could get was this:
Smoke. Yup, that’s it. Smoke.
Monday was the final walkthrough for the house. Wheeee! Might be in by the 17th... Keep those fingers and toes crossed!!!!
I have been working on my Fuzzy Feet and I’m past heel and gusset for foot 2, although I still haven’t had a chance to graft up the tow of 1.
I’d love to have them done tomorrow and ready to felt. We’ll see…
Spinning, you ask? Well, let’s see… remember the multi colored merino? The stuff from Village Spinning and Weaving, the little samples?
Well, the dork I am, I spun the whole bobbin backwards. Gee, no wonder it was hard to spin up. So, OK, I thought, no prob, I’ll just Navajo ply the other way. Nope. I was trying to work on not over spinning and I adjusted too much and it started falling apart on me. Yesh…. So, I ended up re-spinning the whole bobbin again the right way and hopefully tomorrow I’ll have time to try plying it again. I’m almost embarrassed to share, but hey, what are blogs for?

Pretty! I had no idea you'd scored such loveliness at Cap fiber --I love those Cowboy Blues. I think I was too busy second guessing myself for buying the raw fleece to really focus on all the beautiful meaty shopping you guys got done (probably a good thing). It was kind of a weird market with not really much selection (and some oddness) but I think everybody really scored. We're all good sifters with pretty similar tastes I think.
That sampler bobbin is very fun looking--should make up some really vivid stripes.
